the Project

digram for dog space

The beginning around the end of October: An idea on paper to help my friend keep her dog confined, but able to get out when he wants to. I thought that I could knock it out in a weekend.

=:-D~

Starting space: back door.

The original space in the garage:
No walls, no dog door.

Phillip and the truck

We had help getting the supplies home.

dog door hole

After much effort with the angle grinder and a trip to the rent-a-saws-all-store, we have a nice hole for the dog door.

dog door perfect fit

Amazing. It fits perfectly, snugly, just like we planned it.

wall footer

End of day 2. We have a dog door, but only the beginning of the wall. Drilling holes in the concrete floor so as to secure the two foot-boards was very challenging. It is now apparent that this is not going to get done in one weekend. Maybe not even two weekends...

testing hinge position

I figure out how the hinges need to be attached so the gate (frame below) will swing in against the wall.

Paneling installed and the hinges fit perfectly. =:-)

Kathy at the gate

The gate gets its latch, the wall is very sturdy and, though it is not perfect, it works like it is supposed to. It is now over a month since this project started and there is still the top trim to install. Stay tuned - more pix to come.

December 7, 2003—The end of it is a working dog area and a remodeled office area in the garage. As a reward for a job well done, we went to the movies. "Master and Commander: Far Side of the World" Good movie. Lots of popcorn.
